Illinois began sales of medical marijuana Nov. 9, 2015 as part of a four-year pilot program. In the two months that followed, 20 dispensaries opened across the state, 2,815 medical marijuana patients were served, and growers made over $1.5 million. The state of Illinois collected approximately $107,000 from the 7% medical marijuana tax. Illinois, it seems, will be a model state with regards to the way it has handled its trial period with medical marijuana sales and regulations. As more business and security solutions in the marijuana industry get tested and standardized, we can expect to see more states recognizing the benefits of legalizing medical marijuana. Lets hope the smooth sailing continues through 2016!
