Despite the criminals behind the Flint Michigan water fiasco being free, the state of Michigan has been targeting the “real criminals,” recreational marijuana users. Arrests for the possession and use of marijuana have sharply increased 17% between 2008-2014 according to state police. Surprisingly, this increase in arrests relating to marijuana comes at the same time that total arrests for all crime fell 15%. This means that two-thirds of all drug arrests were related to marijuana in 2014, and 86% of those arrests were simple possession charges.
These numbers are astonishing considering 74% of Michigan residents under 30 years of age and 51% of residents over 60 support ending the cannabis prohibition.
