Cannabis Tranquil Tea - A Hug in a Mug

August 14, 2017

By Parker Lewis.

William Ewart Gladstone once said, “If you are cold, tea will warm you; if you are too heated, it will cool you; if you are depressed, it will cheer you; if you are excited, it will calm you.”

I couldn’t agree more. One of my favorite pastimes as far as I can remember is having friends over for tea. When I was young it was fun to get out my porcelain tea set and set the table for my friends. As an adult it is a time for decompression, it is therapy. Mix this with a sativa strain of marijuana and I have the perfect evening.

Bre and I both love tea, which we discovered when we were working together in human service. When we had a rough day, it was nice to unwind with a cup of tea, or what I like to call, “a hug in a mug.” When we started making marijuana infused cookies and cupcakes, we learned that we could make a marijuana tincture to put in our tea. We brainstormed and came up with Rose Glow Tea Room.

Historically, Rose Glow Tea Room was a popular cafe in Washington, D.C. during the 1920s and 30s. It was located 2625 14th Street, between Euclid and Fairmont. Although their recipes did not include marijuana.

I love getting around the table with my little tribe and discussing the events of life. Whether it’s passing a preroll or sipping some canna tea, these talks over tea seem to be calming and de-stressing. The conversations are light-hearted and full of chuckles. It is bat far the opposite of typical stoner stereotype. Instead of sitting around playing video games, we are discussing career goals, life goals, and of course bitching around everyday gripes. But it’s cathartic. Sometimes in laugh you have to laugh or cry; marijuana helps us laugh.

Cannabis Tincture

I am lucky enough to have a Magic Butter machine to make my tincture. For those you don't have a magic butter machine and want to make tincture the old fashioned way, check this 'How to Make a Cannabis Tincture' blog post from Massroots.

  • ¼-1 ounce/7-28 g botanicals per cup/240 ml*, decarbed (Our go to right now is Lemon Haze)
  • 2-5 cups/475-1180 ml Everclear grain alcohol, 151 or 190 proof

Set to 130 degrees for 8 hours

Strain into storage container and enjoy!

Lavender Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of culinary lavender buds (adding too much lavender will give your syrup a soapy smell and taste. I learned this the hard way.)

  • Combine all ingredients into a sauce pan.
  • Bring to boil.
  • Simmer for one minute.
  • Take off heat and allow to steep for 20 minutes
  • Strain into storage container.

Canna Infused Lady Grey

Steep a bag of Lady Grey tea for 2-4 minutes in mug.

Using a standard eyedropper, add a 0.05 ml of tincture to tea. (Which is about an eyedropper full) this depends on how elevated you would like to get.

Add lavender simple syrup to taste. I usually start with  teaspoon.
