We often find ways to incorporate healthy and natural aspects into our lives. There are many known homeopathic remedies for our ailments in the form of supplements to healthy eating. But what about our pets? Cannabis is known for its medicinal purposes and its ability to help treat the ailments that come along with arthritis, cancer, and other illnesses. While humans may have been using cannabis as medicine for centuries, CBD oil has become a popular trend in pet medicine.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, commonly known as CBD, is the non-psychoactive component of the chemical makeup of cannabis. It is consumed in the form of an oil, which is derived from the cannabis plant. CBD interacts with the receptors and the endocannabinoid system (which is found in mammals including humans and dogs) to produce the various alleviating properties cannabis is known for. Unlike THC (the psychoactive chemical in the cannabis plant), CBD can be used to help treat both dogs and humans alike for medical ailments without the "high."

The Seven Benefits of CBD Oil for Dogs

CBD works with the body naturally to help manage your pet's symptoms, including the following ailments:

  1. Cancer Pains: CBD oil can help your dog with the general pain that comes along with cancer and help to manage other symptoms that may arise.
  2. Inflammation: There are properties in CBD that interact with receptors in the body to help reduce inflammation that resulted from an existing illness or post operation.
  3. Anxiety: We would suggest the use of CBD oil for dogs if your dog suffers from anxiety or depression, as it is a great way to help keep your pup's nerves at ease. CBD oil can also help to curb the disruptive behavior that comes along with anxiety that comes along with stress such as urinating, barking, and chewing!
  4. Arthritis: Like humans, dogs can benefit from the use of CBD oil to help manage joint pain and inflammation that resulted from arthritis. Additionally, mobility can be improved with the use of CBD oil!
  5. Loss of Appetite: When your dog suffers from a loss of appetite due to sickness or other health complications, CBD oil can be used to increase their appetite and allieviate digestive issues.
  6. Seizures: There have been a good number of studies for both humans and dogs that high levels of CBD help to reduce the frequency of seizures from epilepsy and genetic disorders.
  7. Aggressive Behavior: In addition to helping dogs with their anxiety and depression, CBD can help dogs who struggle to control their temper and reduce aggressive behavior.

How Can I Give My Dog CBD?

CBD oil can be given to your dog either orally or topically. CBD dog treats are a great way to incorporate CBD oil into your dog's diet. There are also sprays and ointments with CBD oil that you can apply to your pet's skin.

CBD oil is a safe, natural alternative medicine for both dogs and humans alike. Unfortunately due its classification as a Schedule I drug and legality in few states, CBD oil products are not found widely outside of the internt market. As more research is conducted within the cannabis industry by scientific officials, there is hope for improvement in the availability of CBD products in the mainstream market.
