CannaLance is much more than a cannabis freelance writing and social media service provider. It is a dream built on a passion stemming from one of the deepest and darkest times in my life. My name is Ashley Priest and I am one of the owners and writers at CannaLance. To truly understand what we do at CannaLance you must first understand where it all started.
My husband James Priest and I have always been lovers of the herb. In fact, we have been part of the cannabis culture for over 40 years combined and ganja was a part of our lives since a young age. We loved to get high!
In August of 2010, we were extremely excited when we welcomed our first child together into the world. Xander Chase Priest. What we could never imagined though is what would happen over the next 11-month time period. Xander seemed perfectly healthy at birth and there were no concerns until he was a couple of months old and was not hitting developmental milestones such as holding his head up on his own.
At his 6-month checkup, the doctor noted something peculiar with his hair which was very springy and almost white in appearance. This in combination with the concern of his developmental progress brought about great concern to us all. We found out shortly after this that Xander was born with a condition known as Menkes Disease.
Menkes is a very rare genetic disorder caused by the bodies inability to produce copper. This deficiency of copper leads to neurological stress and effects everything from developmental progress and gastrointestinal function to skin pigmentation and much more.
Soon after this Xander began to have seizures. Hundreds of seizures every day and there was nothing that we could do to help. The medications did not work. 11 of them. No success at reducing the frequency or severity of them. This ultimately led to a rapid decline in Xander’s health and he gained his angel wings at just 11 months old.
This is when it clicked. Our little boy Xander could have potentially seen great benefits from CBD as well but this was not an option for us. This was not mentioned. This was not offered. This wasn’t even legal where we lived.A few years after this detrimental loss, in the spring of 2015, my husband read an article about Charlotte Figi and how a component of cannabis called CBD or cannabidiol had drastically changed her life by limiting the seizures she experienced from Dravet Syndrome Epilepsy.
But what if we would have known? What if someone would have told us about CBD and its potential benefits for seizures? What if we would have moved to Colorado and started treating him with CBD? Could he still be with us today? These are questions that a parent should never have to lie over their child’s grave and ask themselves but here we were asking ourselves these very questions.
This is when we made it our mission to educate the world about the medical benefits that cannabis stands to offer so that other parents never had to ask themselves these questions. In April of 2015, we started what is now CannaLance under the name Marijuana Writers. We rebranded to CannaLance in August of 2016 for a plethora of different reasons. One was to increase our media and advertising reach. Another was to remove the stigma surrounding the word marijuana, however, that is a totally different topic!
It was nowhere near as easy to promote our writing, our business, or our message as we thought it would be. We could write some amazing, blow your mind, enlighten your mood, and elevate your senses kind of stuff but no one would see it because we couldn’t market or promote it.Marketing in the cannabis industry is much more difficult than in other sectors and advertising isn’t any easier. This is something that we quickly found out on our mission to share education surrounding cannabis with the world.
We quickly learned that there are many limitations and stipulations when it comes to marketing and advertising businesses, brands, companies, and organizations within the cannabis niche. This is true whether they work directly with the plant hands on or not. Luckily, however, us “stoners” are quite innovative and we are quickly overcoming these obstacles.
As Marijuana Writers these obstacles and limitations were much fiercer. This is one reason why we ultimately chose to rebrand to CannaLance. By doing so we have been able to drastically change our marketing and advertising strategies as well as increase our reach when publishing original cannabis content for ourselves and our clients.
There are many ways that you can overcome these limitations and obstacles without breaking the law. These are a few of them that we have found to be most effective and help bring us success not just with CannaLance but also with our other content company, AnEye4TheShot, and in building an interest in our essential oil company Oils of Time.
I have mentioned a strong SEO strategy several times throughout this article. Here are a few of the reasons why a strong SEO strategy is crucial for businesses and organizations within the cannabis niche.
Original content is one of the most important things that you can invest in as a company. Many websites come with a blog already incorporated but unfortunately many businesses allow those pages to sit blank and in return are missing out on major benefits for their company. A blog with original content can offer many benefits, including but not limited to the following;
Social media is very important in today’s business world. This is especially true though for businesses within the cannabis niche as advertising and marketing options are limited. Here are a few of the benefits to having and maintaining a strong social media presence.
