With the rare exception of a few vaporizers that are capable of handling multiple substances at a time, most vaporizer devices are built to handle one kind of product at a time. Many are aware of the technology that goes into a typical e-liquid vape pen but the technology that powers dry herb and wax vaporizers may not be as well-known. If you are considering a dry herb or wax vape for your next purchase, here are some of the differences between them and what you can expect to get out of your device.
The weed vape pen is a product designed to specifically handle herbs like marijuana or tobacco, which would otherwise be smoked using tools like a pipe or wrapping paper. By placing your ground herbs inside of your device and heating them to a certain temperature, the active ingredients contained within the herb are released as vapor, which can then be drawn out when you take a hit from your vape. Compared to smoking, using a dry herb vaporizer is often a more desirable form of getting the experience that you want from your favorite substances.

Features: Whether you are using a desktop vaporizer or a portable vaporizer, dry herb vapes will typically come with features such as precision temperature control to help you experiment with your herbs (or, at the very least, several temperature settings), an herbal chamber near the mouthpiece in which to place your ground herbs, and conduction or convection heating to release the vapors. Some vaporizers may include extra features like stirring tools to improve the convenience for the user.
Wax vapes are vaporizers that, you guessed it, are designed to vaporize wax concentrates. If you have ever done a dab from a rig, the process is somewhat similar. Wax coils are superheated using the battery inside your product so that they can melt down the introduced wax when it comes into contact with the heating element. These coils are what produce the large clouds that most wax vapes are known for. These pieces are also much simpler to manage due to the ease-of-use when it comes to taking dabs.

Features: Despite being a simple product, there are actually so many different products that will allow you to melt down your concentrates. For now, however, we will only focus on portable wax vaporizers such as dab pens. These products will usually feature just the coil and the body. There may be different voltage levels and extra features such as dab storage on the device but these products don’t tend to have many features as all you have to do is load and vape!
Because these products are designed to vaporize different substances, there are going to be some key differences in their build. These include differences such as:
Chambers: The biggest difference between the two products is the chamber that is used to heat up the substance. In dry herb vapes, this chamber is more like an oven. It is designed to hold a certain capacity of herbs and then uses conduction or convection heating to gradually heat up the herbs within this chamber. With a wax vaporizer, powerful coils (sometimes flat coils) are used instead. These chambers won’t be as deep and are designed to heat small amounts of dab concentrate at a time. (When you are using marijuana concentrate, a little at a time is usually all that is needed!)
Battery: While dry herb vapes and wax vapes both use batteries, the amount of power needed to vaporize the substances varies. For example, dry herb vapes will almost always require more power as the process of heating up herbs takes a lot of energy. The process of heating up dabs, on the other hand, is nowhere near as energy-consuming. This is why most dab products can last longer than the average dry herb vape. Temperature: As we stated above, precision temperature control is rarely a feature we see in wax vapes. This is due to the fact that it was not initially a popular feature when vapes were first developed as heat play much more of a central role to the dry herb experience than it does to the concentrate experience. Additionally, the temperature will vary in these products in terms of heat settings. Wax vaporizers need higher temperatures to melt down the concentrate while dry herb vapes can use much lower heat settings to achieve the same goal.
Both dry herbs and concentrates are great products to vaporize but there are differences between the vaporizers that accomplish this that all potential owners should know.
