It is happening. Slowly but surely, it is happening.

Marijuana liberation is creeping across North America like a wildfire and nothing seems to be stopping it.

As of right now, recreational marijuana is legal in 9 states in the USA and medical marijuana legal in a further 30, along with Canada recently announcing it plans to have it fully legalized this year! With marijuana becoming more and more accepted around the world attitudes towards it are also changing. A big stereotype that is coming down is the ‘lazy stoner’ stereotype. Of all the old marijuana stereotypes we believe this one to be the most untrue.

Having said that, it is also true that when used wrongly marijuana can affect your productivity. On the flip side, when used correctly and at the right times, marijuana can help you produce some of your best work.

So without further adieu, below are 5 top tips on how to use marijuana to boost your productivity:

1. Set yourself goals and use marijuana as a motivator

Is there anything more rewarding than ending a long hard day than a nice relaxing joint? You’re right, there isn't!

Use this fact as a motivator. If you have a certain amount of work that you need to get done during the day, make a pact with yourself that if you get it all done, it will be rewarded with a nice joint. You will feel accomplished that you got your stuff done, and the high will be extra sweet!

If you want to get high at the same time you still need to finish some work, two quick tips I suggest:

  • Don't get too baked, just enough to enjoy the high and still have the willingness to stay productive
  • Create a To-Do list, plan what you wanna do for your smoking session BEFORE getting high.

Think with clear head about your plan for the day or evening, otherwise you will be too high trying to decide which movie or TV show you want to watch, and you and I know how long that can take.

2. Pick the right strain

Most people know by now that there are two major strain types: Indica’s & Sativa’s.  Generally, Indica’s give a more suppressing, relaxed, body high, whereas Sativa’s give a more uplifting, energetic, cerebral high.

Knowing this, it would be unwise to smoke an indica joint right before you want to have a big day of work. On the other hand, if you’re sitting down for a day of creative writing or have a painting project on your hands, then a sativa could be exactly what you need to get your creative juices flowing!

Here is the top 6 strains to help you stay productive recommended by Leafly:

  1. Chemdawg
  2. Allen Wrench
  3. Jack Herer
  4. Cinex
  5. Durban Poison
  6. Dutch Treat

3. Drink Coffee or Tea

I really don’t want you to consume caffeine every time you’re high and add another level of substance abuse, but I'm assuming here you’re a responsible person. Caffeine and the weed can balance out the laziness, make you productive while enjoying that creative boost, however, for some people, the combination can be one way ticket to Anxiety-Ville. So, you have to be careful of how much caffeine you’re consuming.

I personally know my dose, when I need some energy while I’m high, I pop a caffeine pill and I’m all set (200mg, which is around a tall Starbucks back coffee). This can be too much sometimes for some people, so you need to find the right dose/drink for you. You don’t want to be too wired and lose the relaxation you get out of weed.

If coffee is too much for you, try green tea. Green tea + weed = Happy-Ville. Green tea improves the mood and suppresses anxiety. It has amino acid, Theanine, which works synergistically with caffeine to lessen those jitters. Arizona Iced Teas drink is highly recommended by stoners, the don’t have too much caffeine, at the same time, they’re excellent for cotton mouth.

4. Try Vaping Your Cannabis

Many people love vaping marijuana due to the slightly more suppressed effects that is has on your body along with the convenience and portability that vape pens provide. A vape hit every now and then of your favorite Sativa strain could be exactly what you need to mind active and focused along with the creativity to come up with your next big idea.

What's so cool with most vaporizers out there, you will have pretty good control on the temperature. Temperature has a lot to do with your productivity when you vape dry herb, CBD boils at a bit higher temp than THC, which explain feeling more productive than tired. I would personally recommend vaping at temps below 385F to stay productive and clear headed.

Vaping just the right amount of dry herb and using the right temperature, physically, you will feel sober, but I SURE AS HELL don’t think sober. You will be able to make the same conscious decisions, while your inhibitions remain in line.

One last point, your productivity will be much better the next day coming off a vape high comparing to smoking high.

5. Pace yourself, don't get too baked

Again this comes down to some self-control. There can be a very thin line between the amount of marijuana that boosts your productivity and the amount of marijuana that is going to throw you into chilled out Netflix marathon (as nice as that sounds, it's not the goal here!). When I try to do some extra work or be productive while I'm high, I make sure not to get too baked that will eventually makes me daze off in every direction, similar to being drunk.

Therefore, listen to your body. Take the little bit you need to get started and then use that momentum to get more done. Remember that marijuana is an aid in being productive, it is going to magically turn you into the next rain man.

However, pacing yourself also goes both ways. Set yourself a realistic amount of work to get done and don’t try to cram everything into one day. With an unrealistic workload, you’re much more likely to give up halfway through, whereas a goal that is achievable will be a big motivator.

Conclusion: Be Real To Yourself

While some people may be able to easily smoke an ounce of weed and still put in a full day of productive work, unfortunately for the vast majority of us that is simply not the case. Know what effects marijuana has on your body and act accordingly. If you can smoke a joint and still conquer the world, then, by all means, go ahead! But if you can’t, there’s no shame in that, use weed as the motivator you need to get stuff done and then reward yourself for a day’s hard work.

To sum everything up, times are changing and access to marijuana has never been more widespread, show the world what stoners have known for years and be productive whilst still enjoying marijuana.

I am a smoker for about 4 yrs now and I’m in the mid of my 20’s I started to smoke when I’m in college. Some of my friends are using vape now because they think its safer than smoking weeds. But i think its the same because marijuana not only gives us the pleasure we want while smoking but it has a good benefit also in our body. And here’s the article that i read about it and i think its true. But it’s only my opinion. As long as you think that using vape is safe I’m not against it.
