If you were living in a state where it's legal, probably you'd think that there is no point of growing your own marijuana... Wrong!
You have to understand one thing, growing weed on your own is not like making a bad quality beer or wine so you can save couple of bucks. You can easily end up with high quality buds and save hundreds, possibly thousands, of dollars. Also, marijuana home growing techniques and knowledge have drastically developed since the days of complete prohibition, especially with more and more states now offering some type of marijuana growing previsions or, in some cases, "loopholes" if you will.
If you're thinking how to get a grower's license (for personal use), you have to know that as of 2018, you can legally grow weed in many states, and Washington D.C. Restrictions may vary from a state to another, however, most states allow to grow up to 4-6 plants (which is more than enough for personal use, no matter how much you smoke). In addition, some states provide caveat to their laws where they allow you to pick up legal genetics such as seeds and clones to take home.

If you're still not convinced, here is 5 reasons why you should start growing your own marijuana:
Is growing weed worth it? It's actually the number one reason why a stoner would start growing her/his own weed, and it's absolutely true. By growing your own marijuana plants, you will be surprised how much money you will be able to save, in some occasions, earn too.
The whole project may need an initial capital (a very cheap indoor grow setup is totally possible too). The initial capital associated with building out a grow space, buying the needed rich soil, materials, equipment, and, of course, quality seeds (which can be a bit pricey, unless you have a hookup).
With that said, this start up cost can be a financial burden for many of us, especially when it's your first time and you're a bit hesitant to spend money on something you know absolutely nothing about. Understandable! However, you can always get started on practically any budget. Keep in mind, many first time growers paid back their initial investment after the FIRST harvest. So calm down, you will be just fine.
After purchasing your first growing kit (lights, equipment, etc.) you will be set, probably for life if you want to keep doing it. All you need is few cannabis plants that will guarantee a steady flow of buds for you and everyone around you.
So, in conclusion, whatever you will end up paying, it will be soon, very soon, paid off.
If you were living where it's legal, probably this won't be a huge perk, but for those who get their weed from friends, friends of a friend, or possibly end up "dealing" with people they'd rather not, they usually get whatever they have their hands on. Good sh*t or bad sh*t, at this point you don't argue, you just pay and get that bag of weed. Which can be frustrating for some people, especially for those who use it for specific or medical purposes.
By growing your own weed, you will know exactly what you're eventually getting. You will guaranteed organic buds with no chemical fertilizers and certainly doesn’t taste like chemicals when you smoke it, like some of the cheap low quality weed taste like.
Growing your own weed will provide you with a complete control on every aspect of the growing process, furthermore developing a system that works for you. The type of strain, the fertilizers, pesticides, how the plant was flushed and cured, and variety of possible strains that you never had the chance to try.

Having a full control over your growing techniques, will give you the opportunity to personalize your own cultivation style, and eventually the quality you're looking for.
Check this out, in optimal conditions, with the right process, lights, equipment, and soil, a professional grower can product from a single marijuana plant around 50 ounces of weed. 50 OUNCES!!!
For your personal use; indoor growing allows you to grow high quality weed all year round, regardless of what time of the year it is. 6 mature plants yield about 5 times what you can actually use, if you want to lead a productive life; all you need is a walk-in closet and you will be all set for years to come.

For family and friends; no matter how much you smoke, you will end up with abundant amount of weed that the only way to get rid of it is by being generous to your friends and families, and they will LOVE you for it. If you take out the time and labor you will put into taking care of your grow operations, you will eventually spend less than $100 a year, but you'll be able to gift at least a $1000 worth of weed to friends and family. Non profit marijuana gifting usually legal in most of the states.
Finally, you will be able to get your hands, not only on the buds that you normally buy, but also on parts of the cannabis plant that you often can't get your hands on, like trims and stems.
First, you will enjoy crossbreeding to trying to get a smooth taste with a potency that is perfect for your needs (what I personally look for is a potency that will encourage creativity and conversation, however, won’t produce “couch lock “ or kill motivation).
Second, in normal cases, and due to prohibition, cost and/or limited accessibility to marijuana in general, people lost sight of the so many applications they can apply; using not only the buds, but also the plant's stems, seeds and leaves. However, if you were growing your own weed, and having access to that whole plant and that much of weed, it will give you more room for experimentation and apply those applications
With abundant amount of marijuana, you will be able to make your favorite edibles without worrying about how much weed you will be cooking as edible can be wasteful. Making hash, concentrate, oil, wax, tinctures, cream for your skin, marijuana tea, marijuana wine, and more... Sky is your limit...
