Vaping for Beginners - Anatomy of a Vape Pen & How to Use it?

July 19, 2021

In 2003 a Chinese pharmacist, Mr. Hon Lik invented the modern e-cigarette or vape pen. He used a high frequency, piezoelectric ultrasound emitting element combined with a coiled heating element to achieve consistent, nicotine-flavored vapor. In simple terms, a vape pen is an electronic device that heats the liquid to release vapor.

Vape juice or e-liquid is used to create vapor. It’s commonly made of a mix of vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol, and flavoring. There are both nicotine-infused liquids and nicotine-free liquids.

How to use a vape pen

Let us talk about the steps of how to use vape pen. Load the device with your choice of vaping liquid. Vape pens Are usually powered up after you click the power button five times. Most pens will light up after switching on. Then you will press and hold the power button to send an electric impulse to the atomizer to create vapor. It may take a few extra seconds to create a strong cloud of vapor but once you draw a puff, the device will generate vapor again once you press the button. Ensure you take a long, slow, gentle drag and try exhaling mainly through your nose.

It’s important to ensure your vape pen has sufficient charge at all times. Also, you must store your pen at an average room temperature. It could get damaged if left unattended at heated locations. Excessively high or low temperatures can damage the battery and could even cause a leak from the battery. It is very important to place the pen in an upright position at room temperature. The upright position will prevent any accidental leaks from the cartridge or the tank. If placed horizontally, the pen can create a sticky mess. It could also stop the vapor flow when you’re ready to use it again.

When using a nicotine-based liquid it is easy to obtain a rich smoke. However, when using THC oil, you need to pay attention to how much you vape. It is best if you wait for THC by taking one or two hits at a time and then waiting for 15 minutes between each hit. If you feel the high is strong enough then put the pain aside and relax. It is important to vape THC slowly so you don’t end up uncomfortable. Similarly, when you vape CBD, it is important to be mindful of your quantity. If done in excess it could cause discomfort or gastric issues. Managing your dosage and keeping track of it is very important. You can read more about how to vape dry herbs

Vape pens differ from one another based on anatomy depending on whether it’s a closed system or an open one. However, four main parts are central to any vape pen.

The first part is a mouthpiece. This is the section through which the user inhales the vapor. The second important part is the tank/ chamber/ clearomizer in which the liquid to be heated is placed. If it is a close system then this is the area in which the cartridge is loaded. The third important part is the atomizer. An atomizer consists of a small heating element, or coil, that vaporizes e-liquid and wicking material that draws liquid onto the coil. The e-liquid reaches a temperature of roughly 100–250 °C (212–482 °F) within a chamber to create an aerosolized vapor. The fourth part is the power source which is usually a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.  It is necessary to buy a high-capacity vape to ensure you don’t run out of battery quickly.

There are two kinds of vaping pens. They are known as open systems and closed systems. Open systems are vaping pens that require a refill. It has a tank aka clearomizer Which has to be manually filled with vape juice every time the tank gets empty. Close system ones use refill That comes in pods or disposable cartridges. They do not have a conventional clearomizer That needs to be refilled. It is a hassle-free mechanism compared to open systems.

Let us talk about some advantages and disadvantages of open and closed vaping systems.

Open system devices have a stronger battery than closed systems. They are also bigger on cloud production so if you wish to have richer and bigger clouds of vapor then an open system device is ideal. Open system devices also require regular maintenance and cleaning To function efficiently. They are bigger as well. An open system vaporizer can be harsh if you are not well versed with its usage. An open system is generally more cumbersome to maintain and use than a closed one.

Closed system vaporizers are simple devices that use disposable liquid cartridges. There is no hassle of refilling the vape juice and these devices tend to be smaller in size.  Closed vape systems are also more satisfying because it uses nicotine salts in its cartridge. Another advantage of the close system is that there is no lingering flavor of the previous liquid.

A downside of this device is since it is small it tends to get easily displaced. They are also more expensive than an open system because it is not designed to be refilled and the pods could prove expensive in the long run. There is also more waste generated because of the disposable cartridge’s packaging.
