With the dawn of a new year, there is also new hope for Florida patients in need of medical marijuana. Coming November, there will be a new proposed constitutional amendment to permit the use of medical marijuana. Earlier in 2014, the same initiative was narrowly defeated as Florida requires 60 percent approval from voters, but only 57.6% of voters supported the initiative. However, the presidential election brings untapped voters out to the ballot which makes the new initiative very promising.
President of United for Care, Ben Pollara, stated “We feel very good that 60 percent plus of Florida voters will finally approve a true medical marijuana law.” Additionally, in the previous 2014 ballot millions of dollars were spent opposing the initiative.
As of now, medical marijuana legalization in Florida seems promising. If you live in Florida be sure to call your local legislator and advocate for the new initiative.
